Whenever the car I am in drives past the Singapore Flyer, I can't help but wonder:
How does it actually work?
I figured out that it may the kind in which the carriages will hang in front of the wheel, so it will remain upright as the wheel rotates. It will look something like this:

The actual Singapore FlyerThe Singapore Flyer is not what I visualised. It seems like the capsules are fixed onto the wheel. If the wheel rotates, won't the capsules rotate too? So when the capsules reach the top, it will be upside down? But I doubt that's the way it works. Thus, I thought of the double-tube concept. Maybe there's an inner tube within the outer that will rotate. But won't the passengers inside feel the rotating motion then?
So, I thought its website http://www.singaporeflyer.com.sg might solve the mystery. It has this picture which slightly describe the concept of the Singapore Flyer.
BUT I STILL DON'T GET IT!!!!! Can some kind souls with the engineering-mind explain the logic to me?
