Now for the food. It is the typical expensive, small portion but tasteful and exquisite kind of dishes. I ordered duck leg confit with red wine pear and Dear ordered lamp chops with potatoes. Yum yum yum!!!!! Expensive but worth the spent. But the dessert was the one most worth mentioning. We ordered molten lava cake with tiramisu ice cream. And it was really MOLTEN LAVA!!!! The cake is like a chocolate ball with melting chocolate within it. Once we cut open it, the melting chocalate a.k.a molten lava simply oozed out. Complemented with tiramisu ice cream, it was simply divine!!!! Great food. Bravo Bravo!! Service. I was most willing to spend the 10% service charge for this restaurant. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly, attentive and polite. Dear told them it was our anniversary (they thought it was our wedding anniversary though) and they treated us chocolate cake which was kind of too much for us to finish. In the end, they gave us a slice each and the rest will be treats for the staffs. Great service. Bravo Bravo Bravo!!! Ambience. I guess the pictures speak for themselves. With the sea and golf course as background, and the exquisite interior and furnishings of the restaurant, it was really a pleasure to dine in ilLido. Great ambience. Bravo Bravo Bravo Bravo!!!! The only thing is the cost. But it is worth it if you want to splurge abit for special occasions. Dear has really put in alot of effort for our anniversary this year and I really appreciate it. Dear bought me a necklace and I made us a pair of bolster covers which are made of satin, embroidered with our initials. Something nice to hug and to remind of each other every night. hee...

24th December is the day when Dear and I got back together since our secondary school days. However, we usually celebrate it on the 23rd and spent the night over at some place as that was how it happened 2 years ago when he asked for us to be together again. This year, we decided to spend our anniversary in Sentosa and we booked a room in Siloso Beach Resort.
Initially, I thought the hotel is the one at the end of Siloso Beach but I was wrong!!!!! It is actually a new hotel in which nature is integrated. The landscaping is nicely created and it feels really comfortable and soothing to live in this hotel. But there is a con to living in nature - BUGS!!!!! I freaked out totally when I saw a HUGE lizard on the bathroom curtains when I wanted to take a bath. And it was really HHHUUUGGGGGEEEE!!!!!!! It was around 8cm in length and that excluded its tail. It took Dear almost 15min to get it out of the room. (We didn't want to kill it.)
The lobby is unlike those where you usually see upon entry. We had to go up all the way to the 7th floor, enjoy the view while walking through a corridor before we reach the lobby which is actually a treehouse. Quite a refreshing idea indeed, though the corridor is quite narrow.
The interior of the room looked exactly like what the hotel website has shown. We got so excited and started taking a lot of pictures. Me as the model and Dear as the photographer. It looked as if we were trying to advertise for Siloso Beach Resort. Or a makeover album. (narcissim acted up again)
We went to ilLido which is an Italian restaurant in Sentosa Golf Club. As we wanted to catch Songs by the Sea at 840pm, we decided to have dinner early. We were so early that we were the first customers and they had not even finish setting out the tables. We ordered a bottle of wine while waiting. Though it was one of the cheapest bottles out of the list, it tasted really nice!!! One of the best wines I have ever drank. Great wine. Bravo!
We went to watch the Songs by the Sea which I was dying to watch ever since I saw the kelong structure erected along the beach. But it wasn't as spectacular as I expected. It was rather similar to the Musical Fountain with the addition of fireworks. It costs $6 for Songs by the Sea whereas the old Musical Fountain was free. Located just outside the show, there is a souvenir shop which sells items featuring the mascot, Oscar. Kind of feels like Disneyland. Sentosa really knows how to make money man.
We then proceeded to Cafe Del Ma which is located just outside our hotel. We chose to hang out on one of the beds on the beach and the bed was rather wet. I order Pina Colada and Dear got himself another funny drink, Irish Cockscrew, if I remember correctly. Basically, it is Irish Stout mixed with rum and some alcohol. Tastes shitty. While chilling on the bed, narcissim acted up again and we started taking pictures and that included the coconut trees that were above us.
Thank you for everything Dear!!!! Luvya!!!!! *muackzzz*
Due to poor attendance for the usual Swiss Xmas gathering, the 1E4 Jiemeis decided to be tai-tais for a day and have hi-tea@Carousel, Royal Plaza. The food wasn't that bad just that the place was kind of overcrowded with Malays. I was really put off by a kid when he simply used his hands to grab the marshmallows and dipped them into the chocolate fondue. Needless to say, I didn't eat the marshmallows.
We were supposed to exchange gifts and my gift was with Xiujiao. But she actually forgot to bring both our gifts!!!!!!! Sorry girls!!!! Blame it on Xiujiao k? hee...In the end, we went ahead with the exchange and Xiujiao got an Esprit towel from Yumei. I got a necklace from Serene and it is the 4th necklace for this Christmas. I have no lack of necklaces now definitely.
While waiting for Yumei to arrive with her dear baby, we wanted to take some pictures. But it took us more than 10 minutes to get the attention of the waiters/waitresses. Their eye-shunning power was damn impressive. They could just look around and pretend not to see three idiots waving at them.
"I am working in this so and so company and ....."
After dinner, we exchanged our Christmas gifts. As they did not know if I was joining them, I wasn't included in the gift exchange. Thus, I was prepared to sit at a corner and be out of the picture and drink my wine solemnly. Little did I know they actually bought small gifts for everyone!!!!!!! So guilty as I was, I was happily accepting the gifts when I actually went empty-handed!!!!!!!! Girls, I am really sorry k? I promise I will repay you double next year k? =p
We then went to the nearby pub, Paulaner which is supposedly known for their self-brewed beer. The pub was a nice place to chill out, especially with their live-band which had rather good singers. Basically, we were sitting around and chatting while waiting for the clock to strike twelve (especially Daixing). I was getting bored and decided to take some pictures and that started the ball rolling. (A lot of the pictures are yet to be uploaded as they are in the other cameras.) Unlike the past years, all of us left straight after the countdown. We used to be able to stay up for the whole night, have breakfast and take the first train home. But it seems rather impossible nowadays.
This morning, I took a cab as I was late for my tuition. Once I boarded the cab, regrets overwhelmed me. The increase in taxi fares starts today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few days ago, a few friends and I were discussing about the price hike and Xiujiao mentioned that the meter will jump at 20cents instead of the usual 10cent. I was shocked but doubtful as I thought it might be a rumour. She was right. The meter really jumps at 20cents now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The worst thing was, I was stuck in a jam which I have never encountered in that road before. For a 10-minute wait, I was charged more than $3!!!!!!!!!!!! At a point of time, I really wanted to alight the cab and just take the damn bus. But I was less than a kilometre away from my student's house. For the whole time, the only things I have my eyes on were my watch and the meter.
With an initial charge of $2.80 and $3++ for being stuck in the jam, it cost me $8 for a cab ride which used to cost me less than $5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FREAKING HELL!!!!!!!!!!
Out of frustration, I decided to check out Comfort Delgro and some other taxi providers' website.

Every 330 metres thereafter or less after 10 km $0.20

Peak Period Premium

Monday - Saturday: 5.00pm to 8.00pm 35% of metered fare
W T H!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“According to the TOA, the ‘more-than-20-per-cent increase in diesel pump price since early this year translates to a $12 to $15 increase in daily fuel cost’ ” Though the cab drivers need to compensate for this increase in fuel cost, this price hike is totally ridiculous!!!!!! Now, the driver can easily earn almost double of what he used to earn for each ride. By making less than 5 rides, the driver can easily earn the extra $15 needed to compensate the increase in daily fuel cost. Maybe I should consider being a cab driver now too.
I understand that the drivers need to make ends meet but why can’t the company just reduce the rental fee of taxi? With the increase in income of the drivers, I bet the rental fee of taxi will increase eventually too. The burden is on the poor passengers now. Like what Dear always says, “The poor gets poorer, the rich gets richer.” Anyone knows who is the boss of Comfort Delgro?
With this drastic increase in cab fare, will the standard of customer service improve too? I seriously doubt so.
And for those who want to call for a cab in city area, think twice before you do so. Before you even land your butt in the cab, it costs you $10.30!!!!!! ($3 City Area surcharge, $2.80 flag down, $3.50 call charge, $1 or 35% of metered fare for Peak Period surcharge)
Unless I can make claims for my taxi rides, I guess the chances of me taking cabs in future will be greatly reduced. I always thought taking taxis will always be cheaper than owning a car. I beg to differ now.
It has been almost 3 years since I last met Sandy (still more used to Yuanfeng) aka my-oldest-best-friend aka my-Primary-school-best-friend. She is still as pinky and princessy as before. She turned up in a pink dress and a hairband with crystals on it (something which I am hardly seen in). Our dress sense has always been quite different I guess. Shit colours are more for me. =p
We met up at Village@Heeren for dinner last night. Despite not meeting for a few years, the distant feeling was absent. We could still talk to each other like before and we managed to summarise our happenings of the recent years in the one and half hour of dinner. After we were done with our food, it's the usual photo-taking session before proceeding to shopping.
Notice that none of the photos has both of us in funny faces? Apparently, the one taking the photo would concentrate on taking the photo and forgot to make the funny face. After taking more than a dozen of unsatisfactory neoprints, we decided to get the waiter to take a final good picture for us. Do we look alike? I remember a particular food vender in our primary school canteen used to comment that we were twins or sisters. I managed to dig out some old pictures of us.
17 years of friendship!!!!!! OMG!!!! I feel so old suddenly. Old pal, we must meet up again soon k? Don't wait for another 3 years ah. Maybe we can do something for our 20th anniversary. hee..
Are friends really forever?
Maybe a few, or maybe it is just one of them who will really stay by your side till your death.
How do you define friends in the first place?
People who really know you well? People whom you meet very often? People who will help you in times of trouble?
It is sad when someone calls up his friend whom he misses and to hear: "Actually, you didn't have to call. We are just acquiantances." A friendship is gone with a call of good will.
I guess it takes two hands to clap in order for a relationship to work out, be it friendship or love. One may put in as much effort to keep the relationship going but it may be just futile efforts when the other party is not willing to commit.
A friend told me: "Maybe you should just stop organising gatherings for a year? See what happens." There were times when I really feel like doing so. Why should I be bothered with all these gatherings when there are others who simply can't be bothered with it? I do felt that I was taken for granted at times. So why am I still doing it?
If I am to stop organising, what may happen?
- People will just forget about the birthdays.
- Sub-groups will be formed as people are just too lazy to get all to attend.
- Less gatherings will be held.
- We may only meet once a year i.e. Chinese New Year.
- Or during our wedding dinners.
- More time will be spent with our own families. (Who cares about friends?)
- The next time we see each other will be on the streets, with your other-half beside you, dragging a couple of kids.
These kind of scenarios are already happening. The last time I met up with my Primary school best friend was like 3 or 4 years ago? I can't even recall when it was. We were always preoccupied with excuses or rather excuse "We are too busy." I even missed my friend's ROM as she thought I was too busy to attend. Are we so busy that we can't even spare a couple of hours for our dear friends? Or are we just afraid or lazy to re-establish the friendship? Or since we have not met up for so long, so why bother? A few days ago, it was the birthday of this "oldest" best friend I have and I sent her a birthday greeting via SMS. We arranged to meet up. After so many years, this friend and I am finally going to meet up for dinner tonight.
Maybe the above-mentioned are just some of my extreme thoughts again. (pessimism acting up again) Who knows? We may be ballroom-dancing or playing DOTA together in our retirement days. We shall see.
P.S. Friends, feel free to ask me out anytime. I may be busy at times but I will definitely spare time for you. Just let me know beforehand k.
Last Friday, Dear and I went to the new Changi Airport Terminal 3 to find out what exactly is so amazing about it.

Let's go Sydney!!!
I have been to Changi MRT station for a few times but I never took a close look at this structure before. It's actually a bridge. The hole is where people on the bridge can take a peek at us.
We went to Bedok food centre for dinner and decided to take a bus home. Halfway through the bus journey, Dear realised we can take another bus in Geylang which reaches just outside his flat. However, we missed a stop and we had to walk back quite a distance. During the dreadful walk, we crossed this particular bridge and Dear took this picture:
