advantage of being a student

Being a student, there is the advantage of having cheap lunch deals in certain restaurants. Dear and I decided to go to Suntec as I had this $20 Olio voucher to spend.

However, we spotted this really really cheap and good deal at Ichiban Boshi which is only valid from 3pm - 530pm on weekdays. Ramen and garlic rice are served in this cute double-niche bowl, complemented with 2 gyozas. You can top up $3 for a side and a drink. So we decided to upsize a set and we paid only $15 for both of us!!!!!!

Whenever we dine in restaurants, we have this 4-point system for determining if the meal is valued for money.
1. Taste
2. Quantity
3. Price
4. Ambience (added on later by me)

Lunch@Ichiban Boshi   4* / 4*

After the main course, we proceeded to Olio for our desserts. For a $20 voucher, we ordered a chocolate fondue ($15) and an Olio smoothie ($6). Notice the colourful marshmallows? So cute but they tasted the same. Too little fruits though.

The Dessert

1. Taste         - 1/2
2. Quantity   - 1
3. Price          - 0
4. Ambience - 1

Dessert@Olio   2.5* / 4*

After eating a couple of bananas and cookies, we regreted coming to Olio as we were simply too full after Ichiban. Then our dear boy tried to be funny by doing this:

The Idiot

He even wanted to catch the attention of people walking past the restaurant, and not forgetting the waitress too. Thankfully, no one noticed him. And he ended up complaining that his gums hurt with all the chocolate coating. Such a smart boy.

Both of us ended up feeling sick. Probably because of the heatiness. Fried gyoza + Garlic rice + Fried chicken + Chocolate fondue. But A glass of Redoxon and a nap cured us. Who cares about the apple man.

Down

This is definitely my down period of the year....and it is due to many reasons...

1. My thesis tutor whom I have only seen once, is a complete disaster.

2. My interim crit is on next Tuesday and I am still at Stage 0.

3. My student's examination is coming and I have to give extra lessons.

4. My fucked-up contractor thinks I am his subordinate and keeps bossing me around.

5. My interior project is taking up too much of my time, giving me problems and may not be able to handover on time.

6. I want to lose weight and yet I kept eating and has no motivation to exercise.

Chef for the week

How do I spend my weekends nowadays? Cook!!!!!! Last week, Dear and I had Japanese chicken curry stew on Saturday and I cooked Japanese pork cutlet curry for my family on Sunday. This week, I decided to have a candlelight dinner with Dear (after been inspired by Dionne).

At first, Dear wondered why I had such a funny idea.
Dear: Why candlelight all of a sudden?
Me: Why cannot?
Dear: How to candlelight in my house with so many people around?
Me: We can have it in your room ah.
Don't want ah? Then forget it loh.
Dear: No lah no lah. Can can. We still have candle left from last time.
Me: Hmmph. Talk about spicing up. You are not doing anything at all.
Dear: Ok lah ok lah. We will have candlelight k.

As usual, we will end up with fights in the kitchen. Blame it on my ego. I just hate it when people tell me what to do in the kitchen. I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING OK!!!!!! Especially when his mother gets back and enters the kitchen and he will start asking her questions which doubt my ability to cook (which he insisted that he did not). Argh. Talking about having fun in the kitchen with your partner. That never happens to us. Not even when I tried to pretend to have fun and threw him a slice of onion.

We bought 4 pieces of loin meat and the neccessary ingredients and Dear said I bought too much again, as usual. Then we realised his brother and girlfriend were at home too. So he asked him if they wanted a share too. And they did. The 4 pieces of meat are barely enough now. So we looked through the freezer and found a piece of fish which I thought I can pan-fry it with white wine. Yummy yummy.

A couple of hours later, his parents came back too!!! Great. Really not enough food this time. Thankfully, his mum said she will fry rice for his dad and she will just eat whatever we have, considering that she has a small appetite. Whey.

Finally, everything is done. Dear got the room ready while I take my bath. To think he asked me to eat before taking the bath. I am so damn dirty and sweaty after all those cooking and you want me to eat in this kind of condition? Don't you ever ask me that again.

The main dish is Pork chop with red wine with mushrooms and onion sauce, complemented with mashed potato, vegetables stir-fried with butter and mushroom chicken soup. Notice there are only spoons and forks? Courtesy of Dear who does not have any steak knife at home. And not forgetting the plate of pan-fry fish in white wine sauce which turned out to be rather tasteful. We had both red and white wine to complement the meats. Hee.

The food was up to standard for both of us except for his brother's girlfriend who complained that the mashed potato was too spicy. For goodness sake, I only added pepper in it!!!!!! But overall, it was a satisfying dinner. Though Dear tried to act romantic which turned out to be hilarious instead.

Candlelight dinner@Dear's room    4*/5*

I had no intention to cook for Sunday. However, after preparing a pot of soup and a pot of mushroom and pork stew, my mother went out and have fun. So, I decided to prepare a few more dishes. Marmite pork chop for the leftover loin meat from last week's curry. Sweet and sour pork. And stir-fry vegetables from whatever I can find in the fridge.

After an hour or so in the kitchen, with the help of assistant Kelvin again...Tada!!!!!!!!

Zi-cha style dinner

Yummy yummy!!!! I got standard one ok. So what's for next week? hmmm......

high school drama (part II)

Dear managed to exchange conversation with the bride and asked her if she had invited Guy A. She said that she has forgotten about it but will be inviting him. In the end, after much discussion, the guys decided to go for the wedding lunch.

As for Guy A, he did not turn up for the wedding. Reason: His mother passed away on the day before the wedding.

And we thought TV dramas are exaggerating.

The Priss
Deliberate Brutal Love Dreamer (DBLD)

Mature. Responsible. Aristocratic. Excuse me. The Priss.

Prisses are the smartest of all female types. You're highly perceptive, and confident in your judgements. You'd take brutal honesty over superficiality any time--your friends always know where they stand with you. You're completely unfake. Don't tell me that's not a word. You're also excellent at redirecting internal negative energy.

These facts indicate people are often intimidated by you. They also fall for you, hard. You have a distant, composed allure that many find irresistible. If only more of them lived up to your standards.

You were probably the last among your friends to have sex. And the first to pretend that you're pregnant. LOL. Though you're inclined to use sex as weapon, at least it's not as one of mass destruction. You're choosier than most about your partners. A supportive relationship is what you're really after. Whether you know it or not, you need something steady & long-term. And soothing.

I was having tuition with my Primary 5 student and I was driven crazy by this particular question which I thought was very simple.

Student: Duck
@#$%&*&@#$%&*!@#$$%&*&@#$%&*!@#$

Me: Don't tell me you have only ate chicken and duck before. What other meat have you eaten?
Student: Pork
Me: Ok...good...and?
*silence*
Me: Where does milk come from?
Student: Don't know
@$%&*&!@#$%&*!@#$%&*
@$%&*&!@#$%&*!@#$%&*
Me: How do you pronounce milk in chinese?
Student: 奶
@$%&*&!@#$%&*!@#$%&*
@$%&*&!@#$%&*!@#$%&*
Me: 牛奶!!!!!!
*silence*
Me: Give me one more example. This animal is similar to the cow.
*silence*
Me:
Mutton!!!!!!! And what animal is it from?
*silence*
Me: Sheep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My blood pressure shot to its max after that session. Is it just me or that children nowadays have no basic common knowledge? haiz.....

Happy 22nd Birthday, Mei!

Been so busy with work and pms recently...wanted to post a blog for my sister but just did not have the time....

On my sister's birthday, my family (inclusive of boyfriends) went to Sun with Moon@Central which turned out to to rather disappointing.

All the dishes

The best dish of all - Beef Sukiyaki

The Birthday Girl

The Birthday Girl and her beau

The Hoh Family (I looked pregnant in this pic)

While we were waiting for our food, my thick-skinned sister asked me if I had bought her a present.
Me: Well, I intend to treat you to a massage. (which will only be in November as the spa palour is fully booked till November). But you didn't buy me a birthday present this year too ah!!!
Sis: I gave Mummy money to give you as ang bao ah!!!!
Me: Got meh? No ah. Mummy didn't say. Anyway, the ang bao didn't have alot of money. Don't think your money was in it.
Sis to Mummy: Mummy!!! You didn't include my money in Jie Jie's birthday angbao???
Mummy: Huh? What? You got say meh?
Sis and Me: ................................................

Bought 2 mini cakes from Coffee Club and my sister thought it was strange. But it turned out ok with the candles on it. To our surprise, both the cakes were very tasty and poor Mummy could only sit by the side and watch us eat.

Most of the dishes turned out to be small in portions. Basically, we are paying for the ambience and the exquisite utensils. Though I reserved the window seat, it wasn't as fantastic as the outdoor seating blocked the view to the river. We agreed that Waraku@3rd floor is a better. Better food@better price, Better ambience with better view.
