Chilled Night@Dempsey
Last Friday, I decided to give the Pinkies a miss and had a chillout session with another bunch of Jie Meis at Oosh@Dempsey. The ambience was cosy and great for gatherings but it was perhaps too dark for my preference. Too dark till I had to use my light of my handphone in order to read the menus. Too dark that the waiter took almost 15 minutes to see us waving to him.

Mei's 23rd Birthday
It is Mei's 23rd birthday today and we had the celebration last Sunday. The birthday girl wanted to have some Chinese food this time and after much debate, the whole family decided to go to Asia Grand Restaurant@Odeon Towers. It used to be in Sheraton Hotel and my ex-company's in-house contractor used to treat us CNY reunion dinner in this restaurant. Great food. Great ambience. Great service.
I bought a cake and I wanted to bring it to the restaurant before Mei reached. However, we actually bumped into one another at the entrance! Thus, I got Dear to run into the restaurant. But I guess she has already saw it. Never mind. She did not say anything, so we just pretend pretend. However, in the midst of the dinner, the waiter came and asked when they could serve the cake. Duh! No surprise again! *sighs* In compensation, the boys actually asked the waiter to give us free orh ni (yam paste) jokingly. Needless to say, we did not get any.
Another expensive meal. I am so so so broke now!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!!!

Emperor Chicken
Janeto-san was commenting that my blog was overwhelmed with food and called me "Rachel Oliver". Wahahaha...No loh..I am not as messy as Jamie Oliver loh...hee...
Anyway, for last Saturday, I decided to prepare a easy-to-do and simple 1-dish meal - Emperor Chicken.

The Ingredients
1 Whole Chicken
1 packet of Shittake Mushroom
1 packet of packaged herbs and Spices for Emperor Chicken
Lettuce
First, chop off the head and feet of the chicken. Put them aside.

Then, slice the mushrooms. (Don't have to use up the whole packet. Take around 8-10 mushrooms will do.)

Marinate the outside and inside of the chicken with the spice powder provided by the packet of herbs. Put into the fridge for around an hour.

Boil 500ml of water (around 2 rice bowls). You can add 1 more bowl if you want it more soupy. Add in the herbs and the chicken neck and feet till cooked.

Place the chicken on the wrap. Pour the soup into and over the chicken. Meanwhile, prepare your steamer. Throw away the neck as you will not want to eat it. Dear told me the chickens are injected via the neck, thus that part is the most potent! Hee...

Wrap up the chicken and place it over the steamer. Steam over slow fire for 2 hours.

After 2 hours.....(Get ready your plate with lettuce layed on it)

TADA!!!! Emperor Chicken!!!!!

And check out Timmy's dinner...the usual fish and his fave - winglets of the chicken!!! Hee...

999th Day Anniversary (Part 2)
It was gift-exchange when we got home. Earlier during the day, I went to Dear's house with the intention of hiding both of my items that I wanted Dear to search for. However, to my surprise, Dear was at home!!!!!!! I had asked him several times the day before if he would be at home and the answer was negative. Yet, I found him in the room and he was making my gift!!!!! So much for surprise sia. Duh. In the end, I told him to cover up his stuffs and hide in the toilet as I hid my stuffs.
I just knew things will not go as smoothly as I thought. Argh.
So what did the Lady get from her Beau?

999th Day Anniversary (Part One)
17th September 2008 signifies the 999th day that Dear and I had been together. Needless to say, we need a celebration for this special day!
After much unrest, we finally decided to have our dinner at the Wood Restaurant@VivoCity. A restaurant in VivoCity? I kept my fingers crossed. However, upon entry of the restaurant, I knew the night will turn out to be a pleasant and enjoyable one.
Wood Restaurant@VivoCity
We ordered the 6-course signature set dinner with the pairing supplement. Each dish was so exquisitely displayed and amazingly tasty. The restaurant served wood fired specialities or as their tagline goes “Cuisine Flamed by The Forest”. I liked in particular their Smoked scallop, Foie Gras and the dessert. What a pity that we were not allowed to take pictures of the food. *Sighs* To have every dish supplemented by a glass of wine is really such a wonderful dining experience. I simply love wine so much!!!!!! *slurpzzzz*
Due to some mis-communication with the waitress and our carelessness in reading the menus, we ended up forking out alot more money than we thought the original pricing of the dinner was. *Sighs* What to do? But we enjoyed the dinner very much. For that kind of service, food and ambience, I guess the money was still well-spent. It is 999th for goodness sake! Now we will remember how we spent our 999th day. "Where did we go for our 999th ah? Ohhh! The one where we overspent ah! OOOhhhhhh...." *sighz* And Dear, hope that teaches you to do your homework next time!

Satisfied customers? hmmm...
After dinner, we proceeded for a chill-out session at Klee@Portsdown Road. A concept bar where there is no menu. My faves i.e. wine and beer are not served as well. Instead, cocktails concocted to the customers' likings are served. Though we had to wait for almost 20 minutes for the drinks, the wait was a pleasant one as we watched with impress as the bartender prepared the drinks. Not to mention the drinks which were refreshing to our palates.
The interior is rather simple yet classy. Upon entry, we were greeted by a long bar counter with a white piano and a seating lounge at both corners in front of the counter. There is actually quite abit of space left for more tables but the bartender said that is the idea and no one is allowed to stand inside. 30 seaters indoors maximum. Really concept sia. However, outdoor seating is often available. We sat at the bar counter which has 27 chairs - none of them identical. Too bad there was no piano performance for the night.
Overall, it is a nice chill-out place to spend some quiet and romantic moments. Good for first dates for the guy to impress the girl. However, the drinks are considered slightly pricey for me. $20+ for a cocktail. Hmmmm....But again....it is 999th!!! Hee...
