Since I had to buy my model materials at Bras Basah today, I thought I should break out of my hibernation for awhile and try out some nonya food since we were in the vicnity. However, I was smarter this time. I made a reservation. =p Thank god I did as the restaurant was fully booked for the rest of the week. Damn kua zhang. But I wish I did not manage to make the booking now.
We could not make it in time for the hi-tea, thus we had dinner instead. $14.90 nett. However, the food served for lunch, hi-tea and dinner are the same! For the same food, price is different at different timings! They can at least serve a few more dishes at dinner and lunch right? The variety of dishes was so limited. I can just list them out now: Penang laksa, Lontong, Gado-gado, Fishball soup, Chwee Kueh, mixed vegetables, a couple of meat dishes, some nonya kuehs, two dessert soups and watermelon. Coffee and tea were free-flow. $15 for just all these? Crap.
The food wasn't as fantastic too. The only dish worth mentioning was their Penang laksa. The kueh pai tee, mee siam and sago dessert mentioned in the show were not served too, though I did saw the kueh pai tee biscuits in some containers tucked at a corner of the restaurant. You must be thinking, since the variety was so limited, you must have had a few rounds of the same stuffs. The answer is "NO!". For big eaters like us, we only tried each dish once, except for the laksa where Dear had two servings. Yet, we were full. Strange. Maybe because they were mainly carbohyrates. Or simply because the food was not to our likings.
However, the service was quite good. They were prompt in refilling our water and clearing our dishes. So efficient that an auntie cleared my dish when I have not even finished my food.
All in all, the buffet was shitty and absolutely not worth it. For $30, I think we could have eaten better food elsewhere. Maybe it is more worth it for the $7.90 Hi-Tea.
So folks out there who have made reservations or have intentions to go, you know what to do now. Don't go waste your money!!!!
The famous Chwee Kueh which has meat fillings but in my opinions...so so nia...
Gado-Gado....gets abit sick after eating a few bites....maybe due to the satay sauce...
Penang Laksa, the only dish we felt was up to standard.
